For HeidelbergCement region North West we are looking for a m/f/x:

Senior Health & Safety Advisor  level 1

 The key objective for the post-holder is the elimination of workplace accidents and ill health within their respective area of control.  To assist in the continued development and maintenance of the Management System (MS). Ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, disseminating best practice and carrying out behavioural auditing and site inspections. The post-holder will support operational management in their respective area of the business on Health & Safety (H&S) issues, providing suitable advice, assistance and training.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • To support the H&S Business Partner (BuPa) and further development needs of the Company MS and associated database systems that support it. In conjunction with operations management, review on a regular basis the effectiveness of the Management system procedures and ensure their development to maximise effectiveness and reduce cost;
  • To ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences, near-misses, incidents and cases of occupational ill health in their relevant area are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence;
  • To liaise with Company engineers, managers and contractors regarding the performance of plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Where appropriate, to act as the primary point of contact for the local or national health, safety regulatory and enforcement bodies.
  • To work with employees and contractors, at all levels, to ensure regulatory compliance and improved H&S performance in their respective area of the business. Work with local managers (e.g. plant managers or equal) to ensure a consistent approach to H&S management across all HeidelbergCement (HC) Belgium – Netherlands – Luxembourg (Benelux) operation sites.
  • To monitor and report on H&S performance across the area under your control. To monitor and promote follow up action from internal/external audits and incidents.
  • To advise the business on compliance requirements for H&S requirements outlined in the MS. Support industry bodies (e.g. Labour inspection), working groups or HeidelbergCement, as directed by line-management.
  • To attend and advise the health & safety committees in your area of responsibility or as advised by line-management.

The profile we are looking for:

  • Safety advisor Level 1 (BE) or level 2 (and willing to achieve level 1)
  • Trained in Root Cause Analyses (RCA)

Professional Competence

 3 Years minimum experience in a H&S advisory role

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
  • Good understanding of Benelux and European H&S regulatory framework
  • Management systems such as ISO 45001, VCA, … and work with certification bodies
  • Preparation of legal documents such as risk assessment, work permit applications

 Experience of

 Maintaining a health & safety management system

  • Working in the minerals extracting, cement or similar manufacturing industry.
  • Liaising with external organisations and regulatory authorities
  • Involvement with occupational health surveillance programs and providing appropriate feedback and action items to management.
  • Carrying out accident investigations
  • Auditing of health and safety procedures and systems
